“Then He said to His disciples, ‘The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.’” -Matthew 9:37-38
This is a direct command from Christ that we unite our prayers together with the purposes and plans of God as He gathers people to Himself from all nations. God spoke these words to us not as part of a mission board, an impassioned builder of his own religious kingdom, or any other than our Lord, Jesus.
When our church was first getting started, every Saturday night I would drive my Jeep up into the foothills above Boise to pray for our city. Looking down on our valley I would often pray this simple prayer over and over again: “Save and send, oh Lord, save and send.” Since then, more people have come to Christ through our church family than I could have imagined. From among those, many have chosen to either send or be sent into the world’s harvest field.
Our church family has been given a stewardship to serve in many parts of India and Europe. I pray that when we stand before Him on that great and final day we will hear Him say, “Well done good and faithful servant.” May those who pray, those who give, and those being sent be found faithful and, therefore, share in the praises of our Lord.
