“Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”-Matthew 6:10.
Cease meddling with God’s plans and will. You touch anything of His and you mar the work. You may move the hands of a clock to suit you, but you do not change the time; so you may hurry the unfolding of God’s will, but you harm and do not help His work. You can open a rosebud but you spoil the flower. Leave all to Him. Hands down. Thy will, not mine.
- Stephen Merritt
Take thou my hand, and lead me-
Choose Thou my way;
“Not as I will” O Father,
Teach me to say;
What though the storms may gather?
Thou knowest best;
Safe in Thy holy keeping,
There would I rest.
Many who repeat the Lord’s Prayer, and utter the words “Your will be done” have no sincere desire in their hearts that God’s will should be done in their lives. Indeed if their inner desires were revealed it would often be found that they wish above all things that their own will might be done, and not God’s.
